The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has announced a reorganization of trolley and luggage handling services for arriving and departing passengers. Under the new rules, passengers can now use a trolley for free without the need for a porter. If a porter service is required, a fee of KD 1 will be charged for a small trolley and KD 2 for a large trolley.
This change addresses passenger dissatisfaction with previous practices, where workers requested additional fees and handled luggage unprofessionally. The new system includes a dedicated employee and a counter for trolley and luggage handling services, along with a contact number for complaints and inquiries to better serve travelers and resolve issues efficiently.
In a related development, sources have disclosed that numerous DGCA employees plan to submit grievance letters in response to an administrative decision ending the shift system for certain employees. The employees argue that the withdrawal of allowances is unfair and unjust, as it has led to the suspension of financial allowances of up to KD 300 for some job grades.
The decision to suspend shift allowances, effective September 1, was made at the request of regulatory authorities, particularly the State Audit Bureau. The rationale is that the nature of some employees’ work is administrative and does not align with the technical work associated with the shift system. Therefore, these allowances may not be disbursed to them, according to the regulatory authorities’ directive. The affected employees are requesting reconsideration and cancellation of the decision due to its significant financial impact.
